Dimitrios Krommydas is awarded the NWO Rubicon Prize

Dimitrios Krommydas is awarded the NWO Rubicon Prize, securing two years of funding from the Dutch Research Council, to study "Robustness and uniqueness in fingerprint morphogenesis".

Why do humans have lifelong, unique fingerprints? Why doesn't a tiger change its stripes? Is there a universal mechanism behind the formation of their patterns? I will answer these age-old questions by developing a generic theory of pattern morphogenesis that captures healing, scar formation, and the interplay between pattern formation and shape change in growing organisms.
